Welcome to Patriot Playmakers!
The Patriot Playmakers have advanced to the NCTC State Play Festival twice in the last four years and in 2014, we were named State Champions having received the highest honor of Distinguished Play at the North Carolina Theatre Conference State High School Play Festival. We went on to participate in the 2015 Southeastern Theatre Conference High School Play Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Our entry for the festival this year is TRACKS by Peter Tarsi and we will present the play at Independence in October. We will then perform at the regional NCTC festival. The performance schedule will be announced later.
Our theatre program really just began 7 years ago and we are proud to have come this far in such a short time. In these few years, our student enrollment for theatre classes has almost tripled and we continue to grow. Four years ago, Mr. Rick Dills joined us as our Technical Theatre teacher. We have fully reinstated the IHS charter with the International Thespian Society which is a nationally recognized honor society for theatre students and many of our former students have gone on to major in theatre and are working professionally.
Students enrolled in Honors level courses are automatically members of the Patriot Playmakers. We also have a Drama Boosters club for parents of these students who wish to add support to our program through various volunteer positions. We meet twice each year.
The Patriot Playmakers present ten play productions each year (8 of which are class plays). Open auditions are held in November for our full-length musical each year. All rehearsals for the musical are held after school so students must be able to provide their own transportation. We will present NUNSENSE: the Mega Musical in early March. In addition to the NCTC play festival, we also participate in the Blumey Awards recognizing excellence in high school musical theatre across the region.
