Beginning Theatre Syllabus
LENGTH OF COURSE: Year (A/B)
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
· Apply effective pantomime skills (expression gesture, storyline) to create a simple pantomime.
· Implement the elements of improvisation (who, what, where) in the performance of scenes and stories.
· Apply the basic acting fundamentals of projection, articulation, vocal expression, and cheating out to the performance of original and established literary texts.
· Identify the components of successful collaboration. (listening ,respect, input, patience)
· Construct original or adapted scenes demonstrating conflict, plot and characters.
· Interpret dramatic scenes and identify dramatic structure.
· Analyze formal and informal theatre productions with regards to feelings, characters and goals.
· Identify the technical/design elements of theatrical production.
· Clarify the importance of including technical elements in formal and informal productions.
· Demonstrate basic theatre etiquette.
· Use theatrical techniques such as storytelling and improvisation to interpret current global events.
· Clarify acting techniques (stage presence, subtext, style, and ensemble) through formal and informal class performances.
GRADE SCALE: Participation average, in class performances, written tests, projects notebook=70%. Weekly participation, class work, homework, notebook=30%.
MATERIALS: Single subject notebook, pens, pencils, and highlighters.
MAKE UP WORK:
· Make up work will be accepted for full credit if it is turned in within fivedays after a student returns to school.
· Missed tests must be made up within five days after a student returns to school.
· Performance work that is missed must be made up within 5 days.
· It is the student’s responsibility to request work missed and to turn in or perform with the above guidelines.
LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted up to three classes after it is due. Twenty percent will be deducted from the total points for that assignment from the day it is due. After three classes, the assignment will no longer be accepted.
Students are required to memorize and perform a variety of scenes and monologues in class. They are encouraged to audition for the school musical but it is not a class requirement. We will present Nunsense: the Mega Musical in March of 2019. Auditions will be held in November and all rehearsals will be held after school.
