COURSE TITLE: Theatre Advanced (Honors)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intermediate/Proficient Theatre, plus teacher recommendation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
· Use non-verbal expression and physical self-awareness to communicate characterization and human motivations.
· Generate a variety of improvisational scenes based on given situations.
· Execute choices while applying basic acting fundamentals of projection, articulation, and vocal expression, to the performance of original and interpreted established literary texts.
· Execute work in collaborative groups.
· Craft adapted scenes.
· Create original works such as monologues and scenes.
· Analyze dramatic literature and identify the 6 elements of Aristotle.
· Analyze full-length plays in terms of plot structure, pacing, given circumstances and character development.
· Illustrate the technical elements of theatrical production.
· Use simple design elements for formal and informal productions.
· Demonstrate proper theatre etiquette for the actor and the audience.
· Generate formal and informal performances, including four required public performances. Advanced Class Fall play: Dec. 6-7 and the Spring play: May 9-10. Rehearsals will be held during our scheduled class time but students must be available for after school rehearsals, if necessary two weeks prior to the opening night of each play.
· Clarify production techniques (blocking or style) through formal and informal class performance.
· Participate in the annual musical theatre production in some capacity, either as an actor, tech crew member, or front of house. Nunsense: the Mega Musical will be presented in early March with auditions being held in
November.
· Participate in the North Carolina Theatre Conference Play Festival. Dates TBA.
GRADE SCALE: Participation average, in class performances, public performances, written tests, projects=70%, Weekly participation, class work, homework, notebook =30%,
MATERIALS AND FEES: Single subject notebook, pens, pencils and highlighters. A fee of $20 is suggested to cover the expense of scripts for each student.
MAKE UP WORK:
· Make up work will be accepted for full credit if it is turned in within five days after a student returns to school.
· Missed tests must be made up within five days after a student returns to school.
· In class performance work that is missed must be made up within five days after the student returns to school.
· It is the student’s responsibility to request work missed and to turn in or perform with the above guidelines.
LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted up to three classes after it is due. Twenty percent will be deducted from the total points for that assignment from the day it is due. After three classes, the assignment will no longer be accepted.
